About Us

In a serendipitous tale that began with two spirited sister-in-laws and a shared dream, Merrywood Lights was born out of a festive vision fueled by holiday cheer and perhaps a touch of holiday “spirits”. They managed to convince a tech-savvy husband that their dream of Christmas lights synchronized to music was more than just a tipsy idea—it was a calling.

In December 2018, the Barkers moved to Merrywood Drive, in Cottonwood, California. Then, like a plot twist straight out of a holiday movie, the house across the street went up for sale on Christmas Eve. The Watkins, seeking to be closer to family and captivated by the allure of this beautiful community, seized the opportunity and made the purchase. It was, without a doubt, a Christmas miracle.

Immersing themselves in the warmth of Cottonwood, both families quickly became integral parts of the community. One sister became a beloved teacher at the local elementary school, where the families four kids attend/attended, while the other dedicates her time to volunteering as a soccer coach and planning local fundraisers. As they embraced the spirit of giving, they decided they could transform their love for Christmas into a gift for the community.

And so, the dream of a magical Christmas light show was transformed into reality. Merrywood Lights has hoped to become a community tradition, with the goal of making each year more grand and enchanting than the last. To the wonderful people of Cottonwood, whose support, love, and warm welcome have made this dream possible, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a luminous night!
